Dr. Gater’s Weight Loss & Wellness

FDA issued a warning letter to Dr. Jameelah Gater, MD, of Dr. Gater's Weight Loss & Wellness (Eatonton, GA) in September 2025 after reviewing her website and finding false or misleading claims about compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide products. The website falsely described compounded drugs as 'FDA Approved,' as 'generic' equivalents of brand-name GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro), and as 'pharmacologically similar' to FDA-approved products, when compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. FDA cited misbranding violations under FDCA sections 502(a) and 502(bb) and warned that failure to correct violations may result in seizure or injunction.

Semaglutide,[sic] is the generic version of Ozempic/Wegovy. The generic version Semiglutide [sic] allows for affordability and accessibility to everyday consumers looking to attain a healthy weight.

Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro….

Generic Ozempic

FDA Approved

Compounded Semiglutide [sic] is the generic equivalent of the brand names and pharmacologically similar to Ozempic & Wegovy.

While the Brand Ozempic from retail pharmacies is extremely expensive, Dr. Gater has licensed pharmacies that can dispense Brand Ozempic at a much more affordable price. You can purchase Brand Ozempic through our website at a significant cost savings. All prescription medications including generic Semiglutide [sic] and brand Ozempic require a telemedicine visit with a medical provider prior [sic] a prescription being sent to our partner pharmacies.

You should take immediate action to address any violations (including, for example, ceasing and desisting from using the language cited above that misbrands the product).

Within fifteen (15) working days of receipt of this letter, please provide a written response to the Office of Compounding Quality and Compliance (OCQC) within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER)'s Office of Compliance describing the specific steps you have taken to address any violations.

Failure to adequately address any violations may result in legal action without further notice, including, without limitation, seizure and injunction.
